#1 Run The World
(Girls) by Beyoncé
Now I don’t have an active Beyhive membership
card, but I love Beyonce for this song. This song
inspires any woman in any career to raise your
glass and celebrate your accomplishments because
we simply run the world. This song inspires and
motivates me to wake up every day and GO pursue
my dreams so that I too can run the world.
#2 Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys
featuring Nicki Minaj
This song is a personal motivating factor to me because I
think it speaks to the greatness of young women today. To have
a living millennial example of a girl on fire like Gabby Douglas
was a perfect match when I heard Nicki Minaj reference her in
the first verse of the song. Each time I hear this song it lights
a fire inside of me to “win the gold like Gabby”.
#3 ROAR by Katy Perry
I love this song probably because it reminds
me of myself. “I used to bite my tongue and hold
my breath, scared to rock the boat and make a
mess”. This song motivates me to be comfortable
in speaking up about myself and not being taken
for granted. It also motivates me to keep my eye
on my 100% chance of WINNING. I love to listen to
this song before heading into a meeting regarding
a promotion. “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,
dancing through the fire ‘cause I am a champion
and you’re gonna hear me roar.” Grrr.
#4 I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly
Do NOT laugh at me. For those who don’t know me, you’ll
learn (quick) that I am a lover of 90’s music. It may be the
Chicago in me, but I’d have to say that this song is one of the
most inspirationally empowering songs in life. Seriously, on
this journey of dream chasing it’s easy to get discouraged
because it seems like it’s not happening as swiftly as we’d
like. It’s the simple lyrics that make me love this song and
believe that “If I can see it, then I can do it; if I just believe it,
there’s nothing to it.”
#5 He’s Able by Deitrick Haddon
I love gospel music and I’d pair this song with one
of my favorite scriptures that I recite every morning,
Ephesians 3:20. If you’ve ever considered giving up…
DON’T! If God has given you a dream, vision and/or
goal then write it down. “Don’t give up on God, cause
he won’t give up on you…He’s ABLE!” I personally
believe God is capable of fulfilling every promise; we
just have to be patient and do the work.
