STATE OF THE MADE MILLENNIAL MADE BY: ASHLEI COOPER Contextualizing research and rumor about this generation through an aspirational, multicultural lens. Lazy. Irresponsible. Disrespectful. In a June 2015 update from the U.S. Census Bureau, 44.2 percent of millennials were classified as part of a minority race or ethnic group, defined by the bureau as a group other than non-Hispanic, single-race white. The update stated that the millennial generation is over 80 million strong, and more diverse than any preceding generation. “Diversity is more than just a word; it is an ethos. It makes society more fruitful, and it makes us better,” explains Michael Gatewood II, 22, Financial Analyst at JP Morgan Chase. The back-and-forth on societal definitions presented to, debated by and created about millennials has created buzz; to say the least. “The truth is, we’re in a digital age that presents the same age-old problems with millennial twists,” explains Dr. Justin Charles, 26, Pharmacist at Walgreens, New Orleans. “There aren’t many true “firsts” when it comes to life experiences and lessons learned.” MADE-MAGAZINE.COM 14
