In his delightful Italian accent, Roberto Tucci tells the
Bijem story in a matter of fact way, a story that began
over 25 years ago. Roberto was sent by his father, fashion
designer Emidio Tucci, to South Africa to bring home his
gemmologist brother―instead of which he settled there
himself! Together the brothers decided to set up their own
diamond business. Specialists in rare gemstones, they involved themselves in the whole process, from mining to cutting, building up an international reputation. They went
on to create superb pieces for the great French, Swiss and
Italian jewellery houses. In 1994, because of the deteriorating security situation in South Africa they moved to
