New Year ’ s Resolutions for Hoteliers

I will not eat turn down service treats before , during or after room inspections .
When the Executive Chef shows me the food pictures for the new seasonal menu , I will only request 1 serving of each item for quality control purposes . I will not ask for seconds , or thirds , like last year .
The next time a guest asks me for directions , I won ’ t send them to the boutique if I don ’ t like what they are wearing , even though they should totally make that their first stop .
In 2017 all of my performance evaluations for my team will say , “ Please continue . Please stop . And well done .” Each team member will have to decide which one to do and when .
I will not break into song at the morning line up when we are named # 1 in our category for our entire hotel group . No , that is so last year . I will start a conga line instead .

I will definitely get a massage at my top competitor ’ s spa . For research purposes only .
I will embrace my sacred duty of promoting my hotel by enacting “ Silly Selfie Day ” and having the entire team take selfies while working and laughing and making memories . I will appear in such selfies as myself . In my attempt not to be silly , I will look sillier than everyone else , just like last year . Does that count as a resolution ?
During “ walk in each other ’ s shoes week ,” I will have the accounting team make beds and the housekeeping team make spreadsheets . I feel like the evil villain in a dark comedy already . Putting this on the calendar now .
I will lose those last 10 pounds by using my own gym . I will regain them by eating in my own restaurant . I will recover from the stress of losing and gaining by visiting my own spa . During off hours . Of course .

When I reply , “ my pleasure ” to any request I receive , I will really mean it . Because I love my job , my team , and our guests . Truly . And I will definitely have turn down treats as often as humanly possible – who are we kidding ?
