THE UNIFICATION WAR

Humanity left Earth to colonize the stars . They terraformed dozens of planets across a new galaxy . The planets towards the center of the system received the best resources and technology , while those on the outer rim were left to get by with the barest necessities .
Ultimately , these border worlds decided to leave the Union of Allied Planets , opting for independence instead of being ruled by a government that didn ’ t care about them . The Union of Allied Planets , also known as the Alliance , did not take kindly to this . And so , in 2506 , the Unification War began .
The war had several major engagements . The Battle of Sturges took place entirely in space . During previous battles , the Independents had , surprisingly , fared quite well in the skies thanks to heavily armored Firefly-class ships serving as long range gunboats . However , the introduction of the Alliance Fast Attack Ship during this battle changed that permanently . The Battle of Du-Khang , taking place in 2510 , was more of longstanding siege . However , by far the bloodiest battle of the war was at Serenity Valley .
A CLOSER LOOK : THE BATTLE OF SERENITY VALLEY The key difference between the Alliance and the Browncoats ( as the Independents were commonly known ) was always a matter of resources . This came to a head at the Battle of Serenity Valley on Hera .
The Browncoats brought 20 air-tank squads and 16 brigades . After seven long weeks of trench warfare , they ’ d lost almost all of them , along with 330,000 troops . The total casualties of
