when they are killing that person . It ’ s complicated . The Templars killed Jesus so let ’ s just accept that they ’ re the bad guys .
Okay , back to the actual plot . So Abstergo has the Animus which lets the person inside it “ relive ” the life of their ancestors using the magical power of DNA . They use it to trick Desmond into revealing the location of Pieces of Eden , mystical artifacts that can control the minds of humans , heal wounds , communicate information and sometimes let popes fly ( I think ). Turns out , Desmond ’ s great-greatgreat ( etc .) grandparents had many interactions with these mystical items , though none of them understood the true power of the artifacts .
The Templars want the artifacts so they can destroy the Assassin Order , create even more advanced technology and oh yeah , a little thing called establishing the New World Order . That ’ s never good . Oh , also , various clues suggest that another disastrous solar flare is coming our way , and Earth is no more ready to withstand it than it was the first time .
The modern Templar Order ’ s plans go awry ( er ) when Desmond and his team of Assassin friends fight back with the knowledge they ’ ve gained in Desmond ’ s memories , unlocking the Grand Temple where Juno , a scientist from the First Civilization who got a little too desperate with her plans to save the world from catastrophe , was imprisoned . She was locked away by Minerva , who begged Desmond not to release the other Isu scientist . Desmond ignored Minerva because YOLO and released her . Juno ’ s machine saved Earth from the second solar flare but killed Desmond when he touched it .
The story didn ’ t end there . Technology got all weird and Abstergo gained the ability to have anyone access anyone else ’ s ancestor ’ s memories in … the cloud ? Anyway they use a video game console called “ The Helix ” to get people to play and unlock more secrets of the First Civilization . Desmond schmesmond , who needs the guy when you have gaming obsessed millennials to work for you without all this “ desire to escape your evil clutches ” nonsense ? Plus , pirates ! And Jack the Ripper ! And Napoleon ! Oh and some really deep questions about freedom , slavery , imperialism , the role of women in society and the idea that you must seize your own destiny , but hey seriously the whales in Black Flag are amazing .
So that ’ s the state of the video game world . Juno continues to try and save (?) Earth through a series of strange , hacker-like activities , Templars search for more ways to control humanity and the Assassins are just trying to keep up and prevent the Templars from achieving total world domination .
Now you know the plot of Assassin ’ s Creed , which will maybe probably come in handy when you watch the live-action movie ! Hopefully . We think .
