Attracting birdlife
If there aren’t too many cats in your
neighbourhood you might like to attract birds
to your garden. Add a simple bird bath or table
and you can enjoy watching the birdlife pop
by. It doesn’t have to be expensive, gardening

for less than £5 and bird tables for
less than £8. Please don’t feed pests
such as pigeons and seagulls.
Get rid of the weeds
Yes we know it’s an obvious one but lots of
weeds can really make a garden messy and
uninviting. Allocate some time each week and
book in a weeding session. It’s free exercise
and your garden will look great!
An easy way to de-weed is
to use an old kitchen knife
and scrape the weeds out
from the root. You can
also use a weed killer
on the lawn - always
read the manufacturer’s
instructions and be aware of
pets and small children.

Grow from seeds
Whether you’re planting
up window boxes, hanging baskets,
pots or borders, it’s cheaper to
grow plants from seed. You’ll find

Shops such as Aldi and Lidl often sell low
cost seeds that can be less than 50p a pack.
Plant out trays of seeds and watch them
sprout. Transfer bigger seedlings to pots,
keep them well watered and give them
plenty of light. Sunflowers are a great one
for kids to try as they can grow really high!
Declutter
Just like our
homes, our
gardens
and
patios get
cluttered
up with
all sorts. They can get littered with
old bicycles, broken plant pots, faded
toys and tools. Having a bit of a tidy
up in your garden can make a huge
difference. Store anything you want
to keep, recycle what you can and bin
the rest! You’ll be surprised what a
transformation it can make.
