SPOTLIGHT In March, Kirk Kinsell assumed the role of president & CEO of Loews Hotels & Resorts. Kinsell’s background includes 19 years with InterContinental Hotels Group, where he was responsible for overseeing more than 3,700 properties, as well as time with ITT Sheraton and the Trammell Crow Co. With more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Kinsell brings a wealth of knowledge to Loews Hotels & Resorts. Former CEO Paul Whetsell remains with Loews Hotels & Resorts as vice chairman. Decked Out Just in time for summer, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel has unveiled an impressive new fourth-floor pool and deck designed by Southern California architect Paul Altomare. Combining the luxury of the beachfront hotel with LA’s casual culture, the 90-foot pool boasts views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Pier, while the deck features 13 fire pits, 80 chaise lounge chairs and multiple canopy-style daybeds. Guests who wish to truly immerse themselves in the pool experience may book one of four poolside patio rooms that offer direct access to the deck as well as personal fire pits and advanced sound systems. The deck can accommodate up to 200 guests, and exciting food and beverage options are available as well. The new Beach Barn satisfies sugar cravings with its selection of flavors from L.A. Creamery, a local purveyor of all-natural, artisanal ice cream. And evenings by the pool are made even sweeter with sunset toasts with complimentary Champagne and a special menu from Blue Streak Pool Bar. The team behind Lure Fishbar opened an exciting cocktail concept at Loews Miami Beach Hotel in late 2014 that’s quickly become a local hot spot. The Rum Line, adjacent to Lure, gets its name from the place along the coast where U.S. jurisdiction ends— at which rumrunners would sell their wares during Prohibition. The menu offers a mix of classic cocktails from the 1930s through 1950s and innovative concoctions like the Cargo Ship, made with Panther Coffee and mole bitters. The drinks pair perfectly with small bites and breezy outdoor seating that lends itself to private group events or memorable nights among friends. For more information or reservations for large gr
