WHERE TO LIVE NOW
They’ve been saying Eastwood is New West U for years, but now it seems to be coming
true. Established in 1913 as one of the first master-planned subdivisions in Houston, this
perfect neighborhood of old, restored and new Craftsman-style houses and brick bungalows is located one mile outside of Houston’s central business district. If by “close-in” you
mean access to Downtown day and night, sports (BBVA, Minute Maid, and Toyota are
right there), universities and all the community amenities they offer, transportation (fly
out of Hobby and the new international terminal), and up-and-coming nightlife,
Eastwood might be your place. Try out Bohemeo’s for coffee, food and live jazz on
Monday nights, check out the Hispanic Heritage Month Art Show this month at East End
Studio Gallery or enjoy dinner at Kanomwan Thai restaurant (all in Tlaquepaque Market
at Lockwood and Telephone). Mandola’s Deli has been a fixture since 1977 – so you can
see that great things have been thriving in this 100-year-old neighborhood throughout
the century. Constantly growing every day and with tons of new development such as
the two new METRO rails which will provide access to the Medical Center and the
University of Houston, this neighborhood will be filled with tons of exciting new projects
in the future!
