Gr8 Plate Hospitality owner Paul Miller is working on his
next big thing – The Union Kitchen in The Heights.
Restless Palate (from the same guys at Local Pour and
Baker St. Pub & Grill) opened its newest casual dine-in
concept at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch last month.
Uptown Park eatery Songkran Thai Grill recently opened
an 853sf location in Sugar Land’s Town Square. Burger
aficionados – Shake Shack is opening up shop in Rice
Village late 2017, taking over the space currently occupied by La Madeleine. Dish Society, the casual farm-totable brand serving up delicious breakfast, lunch, supper
and brunch options, is opening a third location in
Memorial Green, east of Beltway 8 and a few miles south
of Memorial City in spring of 2017. 51fifteen restaurant transitioned to its stunning new space designed by
Nina Magon of Contour Interior Design, late last month.
The 9,800sf space is a stunner. Nothing says entertainment quite like the TV Dinner, which is exactly what Chris
Shepherd is bringing back. Hay Merchant will be serving
them up every Monday starting at 5pm until they sell out.
Harold’s Restaurant is converting 1,300sf of space
below the second floor of its restaurant into a new first
floor entrance creating a street level bar to be called
Harold’s Tap Room, coming in summer of 2016.
All it takes is one good idea. Luis Carmona came up with a simple one. TRIPBOXX
is a unique travel service for men that sends a customized box of essential grooming
products to their hotel prior to arriving. No need to worry about travel sizes, spills or
weight of a Dopp kit* – your only concern is choosing between the standard or luxe
box. www.tripboxx.com
*We couldn’t help but wonder where this word came from, so we thought some of you
might be wondering too. Wikipedia states that the word “Dopp kit” derives from early
20th-century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt, whose company designed the case in
1919. However, Doppelt did not design the case: his nephew Jerome Harris did.

Recipe for Success founders Bob and Gracie Cavnar are celebrating the foundation’s 10-year anniversary with a little
Delicious Alchemy. The three-part celebration brings the foundation’s vision to reality: a world where healthy eating is the
norm and a culture where nutritious food is shared, appreciated and celebrated. May 19 is The Banquet where a lucky
few will dine in the beautiful space at The Dunlavy on a tencourse meal prepared by RFS Foundation’s Chef’s Advisory
Board. May 20 is The Art of Food – think a big auction of
food-inspired art, dozens of tasting stations, wine, music from
DJ Sun and so much more. The weekend culminates on the
22nd, with The Community Supper – an homage to the typical shared American meal. For more information, visit
