THINGS I LOVE
BY JENNIFER LEVY
Guest Editor JENNIFER LEVY feels mentally and physically strong thanks to the miles she has put into her seven marathons and 15 + half-marathons ( plus training miles ), all to raise funds and awareness for Cherish Our Children International and No More Victims . As a kindergarten teacher , Levy set up a marathon program which challenges each child to accumulate mileage every morning during her ten-minute " run club ." Every mile of their marathons creates mental and physical strength , concentration , pride and a strong sense of individual and collective accomplishment .
Buffalo Bayou I run a lot and I like to try new places to keep me from getting bored . One of my favorite places to run is Buffalo Bayou . I love the views as well . Especially crossing the Jackson Hill bridge before sunrise . If you get a chance , go and catch the gorgeous view of the bayou and the Houston skyline !
Highland Village If you ’ re looking for a place to escape , Highland Village is the place to be . Whether you want to sit outside and enjoy the weather at Escalante ’ s , shop around for a gift for someone , or indulge in a little retail therapy , this is absolutely the place for you . Lululemon is one of my guiltiest pleasures .
Levy Park The importance of family , friendship , health and learning were strong life lessons in my family . It was with great pride that I saw my father ' s family gift to Houston become a reality . Over 75 years ago , a 5.21-acre parcel of land was donated to the city of Houston in order to be used for a park and recreation area . Opened on February 25 , Levy Park has at last come back to my father ' s namesake and will carry the strong foundations we have as a family to this day . Levy Park will promote healthy lifestyles , entertainment and education opportunities and be a place for friends and family to come together . I look forward to joining and supporting the park and programs while carrying on the Levy legacy .
