AL ASEEL GRILL & CAFÉ $ Middle Eastern , Mediterranean | 8619 Richmond Ave . 713.787.0400 Everyone MUST try their fried chicken with hot sauce . The best ever ! Our kids also loved the Kefir ground beef kabob , grilled quails and definitely meat hummus ! Great quantity and quality with unbelievably affordable price . The owner and staff are super-friendly . They make us feel like home . Our kids kept saying , “ It is sooo goooood , could we come here every night , this restaurant is amazing , etc .” We gave our very highest recommendation to Al Aseel !!!

BANH SOMTUM $ Laotian , Thai | 13420 State Hwy . 249 | 832.617.5803 The food is fantastic and the price is very reasonable ! We ordered the deep fried tilapia with sweet and sour tamarind sauce , the papaya salad with salted crab and pad so ew – and all three courses came out perfect and fast !! BISKIT JUNKIE $$ Southern , Breakfast & Brunch , Waffles | 403 Westheimer Rd . www . biskitjunkie . com My boyfriend and I have been impatiently awaiting the opening of Biskit Junkie and to our elation this morning it ’ s just as good as we imagined . The ordering process is through an iPad ® which we appreciate . We ordered the Classic Chick ( added cheese and a fried egg ) and the biscuit with sausage gravy . The biscuits are buttery and tender yet hold up nicely as a sandwich bread . The fried chicken is tender and well-seasoned – better than Max ’ s Wine Dive . Gravy had generous pieces of sausage and wasn ’ t too runny or gloppy like some gravy can be . They offer bottomless Katz ’ s coffee for $ 3 which is a major plus . The service was friendly and attentive . We plan to risk it for this Biskit Junkie so we can try more of the tasty sounding signature sandwiches .

EL TOPO $ Food Trucks , Mexican | 2116 Bissonnet St . | 210.740.1563 www . topotruck . com Unbelievable ! This place beats any taco truck in Houston ! Nothing , I mean nothing , on the menu is prepackaged . All handmade in the truck . Corn tortillas are hand-pressed ; Pork Pastor is the best . Followed by the Paleo Hash .... yeah , yeah , I know what you think ...” oh god , another trendy paleo dish ”... shut up ... get it . Oh , and get the homemade yogurt . Trust me . Trust the yogurt .

EXPRESS ROLLS $ Sushi Bars , Asian Fusion | 919 Milam St . | 346.704.2489 www . expressrolls . com This place is where it ’ s at ! Just opened this week I think . They are the perfect grab & go joint in the Downtown Tunnels . Good-looking people and enticing food ... their shelves are loaded with a variety of Asian cuisine choices . Anything from sushi , salads , rice bowls , bento boxes , appetizers and other Asian dishes . I had a beef teriyaki bento box along with a handful of individual sushi since you can mix & match ( they ’ re packaged in twos ). Super-convenient , delicious and affordable . I was
very impressed from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out . Awesome concept and good luck in the Tunnels !

FILIPINO CUISINE $ Filipino | 10950 Bissonnet St . | 281.988.8150 www . myfilipinocuisine . com My husband and I went Sunday before their grand opening . The place was packed ! The owners made sure we were taken care of though , so kudos to their customer service . Food was tasty in general . Our experience was alright , although we thought having a singer singing karaoke songs was too cheesy .

HOUSE OF HOOPZ CRAWFISH $ Cajun / Creole | 2631 White Oak Dr . | 281.226.2183 My wife and I were looking for crawfish and a location we hadn ’ t visited previously ; it was nice we found the House of Hoopz located in the Little Woodrow ’ s on White Oak . We were warned about the first batch and it was as expected , hot and spicy . Crawfish were good size , fresh and didn ’ t disappoint . The spice was ample , left the lips tingling ... beer is good ! Corn , potatoes were good , sausage good but will cost you extra . The sausage comes sliced as do the potatoes and corn . Price is fair compared to other establishments and the crowd was light for a very nice Sunday in Houston . House of Hoopz is only at this location on weekends during crawfish season . Overall , a very good experience .
