CHERYL SCHULKE ( also known as Stash ) and PAUL FORDE are the duo behind Stash Co . Their story is one richly woven in family history , artisanal production , community and mutual support . Their one-of-a-kind pieces are created in a centuryold mattress factory that is a Texas historic landmark an hour west of Houston and has been in Schulke ’ s family since mid-century . The factory was owned by Schulke ’ s grandparents who produced mattresses through 1976 , and about six years ago , Stash was given the opportunity to bring the factory back to life and use it for bag production . It comes as no surprise that in January 2011 , Cheryl , alongside her father , started to carve out the spaces within the same walls her family had worked years before her . I asked Stash a few questions last month as Stash Co enters 10 years in business .
