Houston Real Estate : My passion . We are so fortunate to live in the city of Houston . We are a diverse city with many economic opportunities , beautiful neighborhoods , an affordable cost of living and enjoyable quality of life . I am a sixth-generation Houstonian ; our family has been in real estate for many generations . I started at the age of 14 working as a landscape engineer ( a . k . a . yard man ) at our family business , Bering Realty Corp . At age 16 , I became the sanitation engineer ( a . k . a . janitor ) for the company . In 1979 , after college , I was promoted to sales associate ( a . k . a . work your ass off !). I have now been with Martha Turner Sotheby ’ s International Realty for 21 years . I wake up every morning excited for what the day will bring . I have no plans for retirement . They will have to carry me out feet first !

Hermann Park : Bob Hope once said that the view from his window out the Warwick Hotel ( now Hotel ZaZa ) looking down at the Mecom Fountain and live oaks bordering Main Street was reminiscent of the Champs Elysees in Paris . OK … that may be a stretch , but the Museum Area and Hermann Park are the closest I ’ ve seen to Paris in Houston . To elevate the Paris / Houston experience , see it before sunrise . I recommend a rigorous “ boot camp ” at 5:30am . It ’ s like sweating underneath a Van Gogh ’ s “ Starry Night .” “ Bear Walk ” up and down the hill at the Miller Outdoor Theatre ( it ’ s the only hill in Houston ). Do sprints on the gravel perimeter of the Mary Gibbs and Jesse H . Jones Reflection Pool . A leisurely jog around the Sam Houston statue , the golf course and the Houston Zoo is always a good option …. oui ? www . hermannpark . org
