River Oaks School of Dancing : While on a date at Eddie V ’ s , we were discussing our New Year ’ s resolutions . My date mentioned that she would like to learn to salsa . Note to self : On the next date , surprise her with a salsa lesson . ¡ Olé , Walter ! I took her to the River Oaks School of Dancing for a salsa lesson . Unfortunately , our salsa together only lasted for one lesson . Un problema ???… in my enthusiasm for this budding relationship , I signed up for the package of 20 lessons . Thanks to the encouragement of Antonio and Kimberly Conde at the River Oaks School of Dancing , I spent the next 19 weeks as an “ o solo mio ” introduction to salsa , tango , foxtrot , waltz , East Coast Swing , rumba and , yes , the cha-cha-CHA . These people are great and it is a fun community .

The V Lounge at Eddie V ’ s : My definition of the Paleo Diet : A corner booth with a linen tablecloth and candlelight . The Anthony Caceres Jazz Trio playing in the background . A Tito ’ s martini with a suggestion of vermouth and a lemon twist . An 8-oz ., center-cut filet mignon with a light crust , a little pink on the inside … but not still “ mooing .” Broccolini with lemon and garlic . Brussels sprouts with bacon and shallots . DONE … my internal “ hunter gatherer ” instincts have been satisfied . www . eddiev . com
My Steinway and River Oaks Music School : My “ bon vivant ” uncle , Buddy English , was a classical pianist and he played beautifully . I have inherited his Steinway piano and it has been a nice piece of furniture in my living room . Recently , I decided to dust off the ivories . I studied piano from third grade to when I graduated from high school – and abruptly stopped . After a 43-year sabbatical from piano , I have enlisted Kevin Farley at the River Oaks Music School to launch my comeback ! My current “ hot pieces ” are the Chopin “ Prelude in E Minor ” and “ Just Give Me a Reason ” ( as sung by Nate Ruess and Pink ). Needless to say , my Steinway is conflicted ; and Kevin is questioning why he takes on adult students . I ’ m doing this for my own enjoyment … SO , BACK OFF , MAN ! www . houstontxmusicschool . com
