EVENT : BARBARA BUSH HOUSTON LITERACY FOUNDATION ’ S LADIES FOR LITERACY GUILD TEA WITH MRS . BUSH WHERE : THE HOME OF SUE AND LESTER SMITH
More than 185 Ladies for Literacy Guild members and invited guests gathered for its first membership tea at the home of Sue and Lester Smith . Attendees mingled while enjoying lite bites and beverages catered by Culinaire and to music performed by Moodafaruka . Following the reception , attendees gathered in the Smith ’ s ballroom for a brief program featuring Betty Hrncir , Ladies for Literacy Guild President , and Julie Baker Finck , Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation President . Both shared the important role of the Ladies for Literacy Guild and encouraged guests to become members . Former First Lady Barbara Bush expressed her gratitude to the women for attending and for supporting the literacy cause and praised the leadership of the Guild for growing the organization so quickly over the past year .

EVENT : ALLEY THEATRE ’ S DECK THE TREES CELEBRATION WHERE : ALLEY THEATRE
More than 100 guests , including designers , sponsors and Alley patrons , gathered for cocktails and hors d ’ oeuvres in anticipation of the unveiling and lighting of the beautifully decorated trees filling the Alley Theatre lobby . Alley Theatre Board President Butch Mach , along with Event Chairs Michele and D Verma , led the crowd in a countdown as his children , Isabella and Lilly Mach , pulled the lever illuminating 28 Christmas trees . Following the tree lighting ceremony , attendees moved into Hubbard Theatre for the opening night of Charles Dickens ’ A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas .
