One of most celebrated photographers of the 20th century, Helen Levitt
captured candid views of everyday life
on the streets of New York City. Helen
Levitt: In the Street spans her career from
the late 1930s to the mid-1980s. The
exhibition features black-and-white and color
photographs, as well as a short film by Levitt
from the 1940s. A lifelong New Yorker,
Levitt (1913–2009) used her camera to
tell the stories of the urban characters
she encountered. Frequenting working-class
neighborhoods such as the Lower East Side
and Spanish Harlem, she documented the
theater of life as it played out on stoops and
sidewalks.

Diverse holiday celebrations will come
together in Seasons of Sharing, where a
block-long neighborhood of houses light
the way through the holiday season. See
dipa lamps, menorahs, luminarias, kinaras, Christmas lights and the crescent moon
dazzle the most diverse neighborhood in
town! Each house will represent one of the
holidays observed annually in households
around the world. Step inside each home, get
cozy and experience firsthand customs and
traditions different from your own.

fragments and unity (the whole), figuration
and abstraction. What appears simple is in
fact complex and multilayered. Join the center for a free lecture with art history professor
Anna Tahinci, as she uses Jungian psychology
to examine Kelyne Reis’ series of paintings, on
Thursday, December 8, 7–8pm.
