new childcare facility for kids with disability
A new room for children with and without disability has been opened at the inclusive Mikarie Child Care Centre in Kirrawee , Sydney .
Run by disability support provider Sylvanvale , the facility will have increased capacity for children who require intensive support and cannot attend mainstream longday care centres or pre-schools .
It will also offer on-site occupational therapy and speech pathology for children who attend the centre , at an additional fee .
The new room means that the centre can increase the total number of daily enrolments of all children , and now has capacity to cater for 15 children with disability per day , aged between six weeks and six years .
Mikarie spokesperson Cathy Quinn said : “ We are very excited about our new long- day care room , which benefits the whole community – including families with children with disability . These families are no different to any other family and need flexible childcare arrangements .”
“ Research shows that early education programs that are responsive to individual needs and respectful of diversity benefit all children and contribute to building the foundations of an inclusive society .”
