Challenging perceptions of disability – and showing that beauty comes in many different forms – is something we often try to achieve at Link DisAbility Magazine , so we were delighted to discover Miss World contestant Justine Clarke . Though not everyone is a fan of beauty pageants , it ’ s fair to say that Justine ’ s participation in this event , which is normally associated with a more traditional definition of beauty , should be applauded . Justine , who uses a wheelchair , is also doing a great job of fundraising for South Australian charity Variety , which provides valuable services to children with disability , and has a chance of making the national final of Miss World Australia if she is the highest fundraiser .
Another individual that ’ s pushing the boundaries is actor , writer and director Kate Hood . You might recognise Kate ’ s face from TV shows such as Prisoner , however more recently her attention has turned to her disability-led theatre company , Raspberry Ripple .
This edition we also shine the spotlight on one of the most common disabilities in Australia , autism . From the latest research to reallife stories about people with autism , we hope you enjoy finding out more . We also discuss ways to get you moving in our mobility equipment feature , and take a state-by-state look at what ’ s happening with the NDIS .
Our music and arts writer Anthea Skinner discovers a fascinating music program for children who are DeafBlind , and the Federal Shadow Minister for Disability and Carers , Senator Carol Brown , shares her views on the Senate inquiry into accessibility for people with disability . There ’ s also the usual mix of news , products and services , breakthroughs and social snaps from across the country .

Until next time .
