Highlights of the 2015 Lehman Athletic Season
The Lehman College men’s baseball team had a very successful 2015 season under first year head coach James Cisco. The
Lightning went 14-14 overall and 4-4 in CUNYAC play. Lehman
earned the No. 3 seed in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships before being eliminated by CCNY at MCU Park on May
8. Lehman still had a great run, as the Lightning were named the
NCAA Division III National Statistical Champions for home runs
hit per game. As a team, the Lightning hit 32 home runs in 28
games played, for an average of 1.14 home runs per contest. For
the season, senior first baseman Carlos Alcantara and freshman
third baseman Christopher Lopez each hit seven home runs to
lead the Lightning. Senior shortstop Jhon Comas produced five
home runs, while senior infielder, and CUNY Athletic
Conference Player of the Year Stephen Smith added
four round-trippers.
The Lehman College men’s volleyball team finished the season
16-14 overall and 8-8 in CUNYAC play. It was a successful season
as the Lightning advanced to the CUNYAC semifinals for the first
time since 2011. In the quarterfinals, No. 5 Lehman knocked off
No. 4 John Jay 3-1 in a thrilling contest but fell to Baruch in the
semifinal match in straight sets.
Junior Jaleel Lino started off the regular season by winning the
Pre-season Player of the Year honors and then went on to become
a CUNYAC First Team All-Star. He finished the year, ranked No. 6
in all of NCAA Division III in kills per set, with 3.97. In total points
per set, he averaged 4.53—the ninth best in the entire country.
His teammates won several honors: Senior
Miguel Gallardo was named to the
CUNYAC Second Team, finishing No. 17
in the nation in digs, with 2.76 per set. He
also ranked tenth in the CUNYAC in hitting
at .198. Senior Ramon Jimenez was
named to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship
team. He recorded 120 kills, while hitting
.232, and had 45 blocks in total. All in all,
it was an impressive year for the Lightning,
who had two five-game winning streaks
during the season that saw them win
16 games in total—their best outing
since 2011.

The Lehman College women’s softball
team finished the 2015 season 9-15
and 4-8 in CUNYAC play. The Lightning qualified for the
CUNYAC Championships as the No. 5 seed before falling
to John Jay in the opening round of the CUNYAC Championships. The team was powered by sophomore pitcher
Meghan Bravo, who picked up eight wins on the mound,
and senior Ashley Williams on first base, who hit one
home run, drilled two triples, hit five doubles, and drove in
21 runs to help lead the Lightning lineup.
The head coaches and sports information directors of
CUNY named sophomore Linda Resto, who batted
.283 on the year, with 17 base hits and eight RBI, to the
CUNY Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Team. More
importantly, Resto sacrificed her personal statistics for
the greater good of the team. Penciled in as the everyday
third base starter, she was called upon to be an emergency pitcher
on two separate occasions. Additionally, she spent several games
as the team’s catcher.
