CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW
I conceive my works instinctively . Those who ’ ve seen me work first-hand can attest to this . My approach has been described as chaotic , impassioned , and disorganized . I get very eager to jump into new projects . I ’ ve been trying to work on slowing myself down , and coming up with a plan before I begin working . My process is always evolving
However , I think this passion and energy speaks a lot to my process . For instance I never do any preliminary drawings to begin silkscreen prin . I start drawing my separations directly onto the films or sometimes even directly onto the screen itself , like I did with my piece “ O ”, which is a 6 layer reductive silkscreen print . I spend a lot of time deciding on color . Since my work is heavily abstracted , color becomes as focal point . In some cases , it is used to help to convey emotion and evoke memory .
My drawing style is an essential aspect of these prints . I always make sure that my hand is present in these pieces . With the printmaking process , the way of creating can be extremely mechanical . I want to use these mechanical processes to create my very natural and intuitive work . The evolution of my drawing style is a little unusual . I spent a lot of time drawing scenes from a nature preserve that is a few minutes from where I live . I kept focusing on one area in particular and I would abstract it more and more in each new drawing , until it became almost unrecognizable , but people were able to place themselves in that setting , or rather
