SMELT-O-RAMA ( ALL AGES )

Join the Lake Forest Recreation Department as we rediscover a Lake Michigan tradition . Osmerus mordax , otherwise known as smelt , return to our shores each spring to spawn in the warm water near piers and beaches . Seasoned anglers will be on hand to demonstrate the dip netting method . You will learn how to catch , clean , and cook these tasty little critters !

CARDBOARD CANOE REGATTA ( ALL AGES )

Team up with your friends , co-workers , or family members for this exciting event . Teams will construct a boat using only cardboard and duct tape . Awards for crowd favorite and games for additional duct tape will be included !

All participants of the 5K Run / Walk will receive a souvenir T-shirt on race day . Awards will be presented to the top male and female athlete finishers in each age division . Runners are strongly encouraged to pre-register at the Recreation Center to help race coordinators prepare and plan for the run .

Ol ’ Blue Eyes is back ! Dickinson Hall will be hosting a Frank Sinatra Beach Party that will feature the music of one of the most popular singers of all times whose career spanned over five decades . The party will feature the music of Sinatra , a delicious Italian dinner , and colorful “ mocktail punch ”. So , join us at 5:00 pm at the North Pavilion to enjoy a late summer evening at beautiful Lake Forest Beach .
