When asked how she would like other people to think of her, Sarah’s response is characteristically cheerful: “Fun. Outgoing. And really silly.” Later, she makes an important amendment to these adjectives — Sarah wants to be known as someone who treats others the way “I would like to be treated.” As for the future, Sarah immediately identifies a goal shared by millennials across the country. “Finding a job,” she states, “because I don’t have any money!” She names Kroger as a potential future workplace, and she already has plans for the money she’ll make. “I can go on vacation, to Nashville,” Sarah says excitedly. Country music is her favorite. Sarah’s caring personality translates to another future goal, one that is completely separate from money or travel. “I would like to start a family,” she confides. “But not right now, because I’m too young.” Sarah is already close with her older sister’s family, which is a strong motivating factor to one day have her own. For now, however, Sarah focuses on having fun. Living with her friends at LADD can be “Crazy sometimes... good crazy,” she emphasizes. “Because I can be crazy with them!” Her love of fun and country music permeates the entire home: “We always love to dance all together.” For all millennials, the freedom of moving away from home and looking toward the future can be frightening. But, as always, Sarah applies her optimism and strength whenever a new situation can be frightening. “I don’t know how to describe it,” Sarah states with another bright smile. “I just keep on telling myself, I can do this,” Serving Millennials: the Next Generation For Cory, LADD was a path to achieving his goal of better employment. For Eric, what began as a part-time college job at LADD turned into a career that he can’t imagine his life without. For Sarah, LADD is home, a place that she can grow, dream, and work toward her future goals. All three millennials have given just as much to LADD as they have gained from it, and all three will continue to do so. In the end, millennials at LADD are more than just a new generation. They bring life to the numbers describing workforce, consumption, and new technology, and they resist definition by any statistics. The future of LADD, of Cincinnati, and of the world is in their capable hands — and if these three are any measure, it’s going to be a good one.
