EIGHTEEN YEARS OF CHANGE IN PAKISTAN : Just two years after the inception of the organization , Saidullah Baig came to work for CAI . Eighteen years later , Baig is the director of Central Asia Institute-Gilgit in northern Pakistan .
“ After 18 years , when I started working on behalf of CAI , I look back and I am feeling good because there is a great change in these areas … It happened because of CAI schools , colleges , and the big impact of CAI scholarship program . It has increased the number of educated people , mostly female graduates .”
Education has become the norm in parts of the country that used to struggle with literacy , female enrollment , and access to proper facilities . Baig continued :
“ In the past when I wanted to appoint a teacher in the schools it was a challenge to

find an 8th-grade teacher . But now , if we announce one teacher post in any place we work there are so many graduates ready for that job .”
What ’ s more , vocational programs provide opportunities to thousands of uneducated women so they can earn income and support their families . CAI-partner organizations CAI-Gilgit and Central Asia Educational Trust , both fund these types of projects , as well as health programs . Health programs offer services to people who had no previous knowledge of or access to basic health and hygiene information or treatments .
Baig says he plans to move the organization into districts like Diamer that still heavily restrict women ’ s access to education and do not have many female professionals . He is hopeful that in the coming years , the people of still-struggling territories will see the same level of change that the people of Hunza , Ghizer , and Yarkhun have over the past 20 years .
