p Just four days before this picture was taken , Marzia could neither read nor write . However , after four days of instruction at a CAI-supported literacy program in Laghman , Afghanistan , she is proud to say she can now count to ten and write her name . The words scrawled on the chalkboard are the first words she had ever written in English . These accomplishments are the first steps on the long road to literacy , but Marzia is not daunted .
