Eyewear Envy

Dorothy Hay has been picking out
glasses for years, but this time,
something is different.
Dorothy has just turned 70.
“I’ve just been through a traumatic
experience,” she deadpans. “If ever
I was going to have some punch in
my glasses, it was going to be now.”

agrees. “Just because you’re older
doesn’t mean you have to disappear.”
It’s why the first pair she tries on,
the Oliver People’s Ollie 5268 in
Buff, just won’t quite cut it. They’re
light and comfortable, but too close
to what she’s been wearing her
whole life, Dorothy says.

pair moves away from the neutrals,
but not to more satisfying results.
The depth and the weight are what
she’s looking for, but she doesn’t
believe the colour complements
her skin tone.
A pair of red Blac Carbon Barbera
glasses are closer to what she’s
looking for.
“They’re lovely glasses, they really
are. They’re very light,” Dorothy
says. But with a wardrobe full of
pink, red just won’t satisfy.
Jasmine has been taking stock of
Dorothy’s comments, noting

preference for comfort and colour.
“You tell us what you like, and then
we guide you,” says.
It’s part of what she calls the ‘Envy
Experience’ – listening acutely to
customers’ needs, spending a lot of
time with them (including making
house calls when needed) and
offering a wide selection to the varied clientele that exists in Toronto’s
Beaches neighbourhood.

Violet – and they’re a perfect match.
“I can’t see them at all. It’s almost
impossible to tell that I’m wearing
glasses. Very, very comfortable,”
says Dorothy. “There’s no frame
noticeable or anything. They feel
very comfortable, they’re so lightweight. They’ve got a bit of punch.”
While the shape doesn’t differ
greatly from ones she’s worn in the
past, the colour offers the statement
Dorothy’s looking for to ring in
a new, exciting era of her life.
