GETTING STARTED…WHAT DO I NEED?
Hi! My name’s Rose Kimberley - I'm a singer,
songwriter and vocal coach and, like many
people in my position, I've generally kept pretty
clear of the more 'techie' side of the music
world! !
However the more I find myself wanting to
develop in all musical areas, the more I feel
the need to get over my technological fear and
get set up with a home recording studio.
Doing so will allow me to work much more
independently as a writer and session singer,

WHO IS SHE? Originally trained in dance UK-based Rose now
combines performing as a singer/songwriter, working as a
function singer and teaching singing to private clients. She is
a typical representative of the majority of singers out there
who have the dream of being ‘discovered’ but mostly just
want to make a living from what they love the most, singing.

as well as enable me to provide a recording
service to my students. In this column I will be
sharing with you my journey from being a
simple singer to (hopefully) a singer with a side
of sound engineer! I will be swatting up on
equipment and speaking to people who can
help me (and you) get over the fear and
become proficient with home-based recording
technology. My goal is to become skilled
enough to use my studio as a resource to do
my job to the best of my ability! ■
