How can you help your high school junior prepare for college?

First, you have to understand the college admissions process so that you can assist your child with completing the requirements on time.

The college admissions process can be divided into three main areas - college preparation, college applications, and paying for college. You are a vital part of your teen’s support network in preparing for college and gaining college acceptance. Below are tips to help you get started helping your child prepare for college today!

Before you start working with your child through each step of the college preparation process, help your child to create weekly goals and how he or she will achieve those goals. For example, your child should be preparing to take the PSAT (practice SAT, a college entrance exam) in the upcoming school year. Help your child to determine how often he or should study each week until the date of the PSAT exam.

Also, help your child to create a system to organize all college preparation activities and their deadlines. There are a lot of deadlines that your child will need to keep in mind, so it is best to use a large calendar, schedule alerts on your phone, or other organizations apps to make sure that your child can plan ahead to meet the requirements.
