Moisturize Have

your teen use a lightweight moisturizer like: Pur Minerals Soak It Up $34 or

Cetaphil Oil Free moisturizer $12. Even if your daughter has oily skin they must use one to keep

their skin from over producing oil. Make sure the moisturizer is oil free and noncomedogenic,

mostly because their hormones are unpredictable and we don't want to cause a breakout.

Protect Protecting

your teens skin from harmful sun rays is so important . Apply a lightweight

SPF on face and/or body 30 minutes before going outside. These sunscreens are ideal:

Supergoop SPF 30 $34 or Neutrogena Ultra Sheer face and body $11.

Cleanse, moisturize, and protect are three simple steps to skincare. Older teenagers may want to

add a weekly mask or exfoliant to their routine. If your teen is experiencing problematic skin go

see a dermatologist to get it under control (they're the experts).

Moving on to tween makeup . Tween is a term used to describe ages ten to twelve. With that

being said, I would not use a lot of makeup if any on this age group. If your tween shows interest

or insists of course we want to show her the proper way to enhance her natural beauty.

Foundation Since

most girls this age have a flawless complexion already, I would not use an

actual foundation on them. Instead have them use a lightweight SPF or beauty balm (BB

Cream): Maybelline's Dream Fresh BB $7 or Pur Minerals 4n1

tinted moisturizer $34. Both

protect their skin and allow them to feel like they are applying a foundation.

Lashes/Brows Using

a dual lash and brow gel like: E.l.f brow and lash mascara $2 is ideal. It’s

two in one, it will allow them to groom the brows and separate their lashes . A brown or dark

brown mascara on lashes would appropriate too.

Lashes/Brows

You and your teen can start discussing brow maintenance, such as brow shapers or eyebrow waxing.

On lashes, use a black lengthening or volumizing mascara like: Lancome Definicils, $28, or Great

Lash by Maybelline, $4, on top and bottom lashes.

Eyes

Start out with neutral eye colors (Maybelline The Nudes, $10 or Too Faced Natural Eye,

$36) are good palettes.

They can start out with just one color or use a medium or shimmery color on lid, darker color in crease and lightest color to highlight brow bone. That is the simplest way to apply eye shadow and blending is the key. They can start wearing eyeliner too, an eye pencil or loose eyeliner is ideal because you can soften the line by smudging or blending.

Cheeks

I personally love a good cream blush like: Make Up Forever HD Blush, $26, or NYX Rouge Cream Blush, $6, it can be applied with fingertips and is buildable. A powder blush is just as nice use a soft pink or peach tone. Apply blush on apples of cheeks.

Lips

If they want to start using lipstick use neutral or soft colors, obviously dark red lips aren't everyday school appropriate. A lot of teen girls still prefer gloss maybe go with a gloss with

more pigment or a liquified lipstick ( Too Faced Melted $21). As the years progress your teen and you will realize what their cosmetic preferences are. Keep in mind these are just basics there are so many makeup trends and products I could not touch on all of them.

As for our older teenagers (16 +), they have more experience with their
