The 12H GTE reacts to the workload instinctively
“ Sturdy trees give way when the Logset 12H GTE Hybrid enters the forest scene ,” the company says , only half joking . “ It is nicknamed the friendly giant , because it is environmental and astonishingly powerful .”
Manufactured in Finland , the Logset 12H GTE Hybrid represents the newest technology within the forestry field . It has a hybrid system with an electrical motor , that delivers “ just the right torque boost ” to the AGCO Power 7.4 litre engine . So far , the machine model has been sold only in Europe .
“ The hybrid system means in short that when the machine needs the power the most , the electrical motor steps in automatically ,” Logset customer Gerhard Sjölander said . “ It gives the maximum effect straight away , which is about 520 HP and a torque of 2,000 Nm .”
Sjölander lives in Sweden and is the owner of a friendly giant . They ’ ve gotten along well since early December when the unit was delivered . Sjölander has the Logset TH75 harvester head mounted on his machine .
“ Thanks to the hybrid system the burden on the diesel engine is smaller . I save about 25 – 30 % diesel fuel ,” he says . “ When the engine uses less power , the hybrid system is being charged . And of course , when the engine uses more power , the hybrid system kicks in .”
Operating the giant Sjölander can see on the computer screen every time the hybrid system is helping the engine . Up on the right-hand corner of the screen , there is a green pole . When Sjölander cuts a tree with the TH75 , the green pole is reduced a little . This indicates that the engine used
more power and the hybrid system gave the engine extra boost .
“ When the machine cuts the trees , that is when it needs the hybrid system . You can actually hear the engine work without any strain even when cutting . The point is to reduce the use of the diesel fuel ,” Sjölander explains .
The machine also moves very smoothly with its eight wheels , even though the machine weighs 24,500 kg . It ’ s big size wheels 780 / 50-28.5 in mean that the machine can also be driven on soft soils .
In the spotlight Logset is a small forest machine manufacturer but has not let that get in the way of ambitious equipment design , on the contrary , in fact . Rather , Logset went for broke when it designed this 12H GTE Hybrid , which is the biggest harvester for profitable large-scale harvesting .
“ We wanted to claim our spot in the forefront ,” Logset Export Sales Director Pascal Réty said .
“ We had the inspiration to develop the biggest harvester for
Customer , Gerhard Sjölander
profitable large-scale harvesting , because we wanted to bring the forestry industry to a new level . “ The process took two years , from planning to a ready built product . Now I ’ m so proud of our guys .”
He says this latest harvester invention has it all . It eases the regular work days of loggers , because it is stable , reliable and comfortable to operate .
After the machine was released , many asked Réty why Logset wanted to invest in developing the hybrid technology . Some even seemed to think that the forestry field didn ’ t need it .
“ Who wouldn ’ t want to save fuel , if it is possible ?” he asked in response .
“ The advantages with a hybrid system are many . It reacts instantly to the work load . The crane gets an extra boost when it really needs it . The amount of HP in the machine guarantees , that the giant will manage even the hardest tasks .”
Currently , Logset doesn ’ t have a dealer in the US . The company is , however , looking into expanding its dealer network in that part of the world .
