You mentioned freelance illustration work in a previous conversation ; have you done much work for publication ?
Not yet . I am actually a beginner at this , but soon the illustrations accepted by a company in Atlanta , GA . ( 4 pieces ) will be sent out as posters and flyers throughout the Southeast area . I would like to also do a children ’ s book someday . I have already some of it written .
Wow , what will the flyers be for ? Are you allowed to talk about it ?
It will be about protecting your computers against virus ’ and being more careful about how you run your computer . value . I did research on them all . But soon the creative side of me came out and I created more like wall hangings ... The Seasonal Leaves and the Sleeping Lion . My Christian Faith was the inspiration for David ( the lion ), the gentle lamb , and Jesus .
What art style interests you most ? Who are your favorite artists ?
I tend to like the Impressionistic / Expressionistic styles . That is probably the reason I love the great Artists such as Claude Monet , Vincent Van Gogh , Camille Pissaro , Georges Seurat .... I could go on and on . Not just one sticks out , because they are all so different in their own styles .
What about your children ’ s book ?
I am thinking about writing about some of the adventures I have taken with the children in my art classes , but from a child ’ s point-of-view . It is still in the thinking stage , so I am not sure about telling about it just yet . I would like to do both the writing and the illustrations though , that I am sure of .
What ’ s your favorite piece of your work ? Why ?
Usually my favorite work is what I have just completed . I love what I do , and put so much into it . That is why my work is so expressive of my feelings . I have just completed some acrylic and pastel paintings this last month for a show , April 20 , at the Anniston Yoga Center .
What ’ s the inspiration for the pottery masks ? Are they based in a certain style , or are they historically accurate ?
I also love history . At first I did the masks for the historical
What ’ s your favorite medium to work in ? Why ?
That all depends on my mood . Pottery releases so much stress for me , but then I can get a thought for a painting by just looking at the beauty around us or listening to a song , and be up all night working on it . I also carry a sketch pad and pencil bag with me always to practice . You never know when something or someone interesting will pop up , and piece of art is born . I also love photography , it helps sometimes with my future paintings .
Tell us about your teaching . What do you do , and where ?
I teach for the Adopt-a-School Program , which is a great program to help our local schools . I teach at the Tenth St . School in Anniston , art lessons for children 3rd , 4th , and 5th grades .
I am also the instructor for the Cheaha Creative Arts Free Art Lessons for 6 -12 years and 13 year-adult on Tuesdays ( every 2 weeks alternating between the two ) from 4 - 5:30 pm . These classes are taught at the Anniston Yoga Center & Healing Arts , and Cheaha Creative Arts is providing for everything ... it is such a wonderful opportunity for everyone . •
