HEALTH+WELLNESS BELLA VOU Q&A Your cosmetic procedure questions answered by Mr Amir Nakhdjevani of Bella Vou, Tunbridge Wells If I have liposuction, will the fat reappear, or can I expect the surgery to get rid of it forever? After liposuction, the new body's shape is more or less permanent, and once fat cells are removed by liposuction they will never reappear. Occasionally some fat cells may be left behind and these can multiply if the patient does not change their lifestyle by following a healthy diet and exercise. I've heard horror stories in the media about breast implant problems such as leaking and malformation. Is this something I should worry about when considering breast augmentation? Breast implants have developed and improved vastly over the years and unlike the older generation of implants (where the silicone was a soft liquid), modern implants contain a solid cohesive gel, which means even if they rupture the contents of the implant will not leak into the body. However, capsular contracture (the formation of scar tissue around the implant) is a risk with any breast implant and can cause distortion, pain and alteration in the shape of the implant in some cases. Information on contracture related to breast implants should be available at the time of your consultation. I'm not comfortable with the thought of a general anaesthetic. What options do I have for facial rejuvenation without having to 'go under'? I see many patients that are worried about undergoing a general anaesthetic for cosmetic procedures, but there are a number of options open to you if you’re considering facial rejuvenation. Non-surgical procedures, such as dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, are an effective short-term solution for wrinkles and lines on the face and can all be performed under local anaesthetic or with the application of topical anaesthetic gel. In terms of surgical procedures to target the face, neck or eyes, such procedures are widely available under general anaesthetic, although there are a handful of surgeons who are experienced in surgical facial rejuvenation under local anaesthetic. Bella Vou offers the unique ConceptTM Facelift which is performed under local anaesthetic and avoids the risks of general anaesthetic procedures. The ConceptTM Facelift is a minimally invasive technique which addresses the underlying muscle layer of the face to address loose, sagging skin and jowls. Will facial injections reduce the feeling in my face? Facial injections such as dermal fillers and antiwrinkle injections should never cause any long lasting numbness to the face. What is a 'mummy makeover'? A ‘mummy makeover’ is a common term used to describe a combination of surgical and nonsurgical procedures designed to address some of the issues women feel about their bodies after pregnancy and childbirth. Each patient is treated 69 on a case-by-case basis, with a range of bespoke procedures tailored to their individual needs including liposuction, tummy tuck and breast augmentation to improve the appearance of the abdomen and breasts. As many mothers do not have the luxury of long recovery periods after surgery, the procedures are generally performed together, which can mean a reduction in price and a single recovery period to enable busy mums to get back to normal activities as quickly as possible.
