Josh Widdicombe // 11 Oct
Centenary Screening: The Life and
Death of Colonel Blimp (1943)
// 23 Oct
Josh Widdicombe, that guy from
the TV comedy shows with the
curly hair, is back on the road
with a brand new tour. Since
he's been away from stand up,
Josh has been working hard on
other things, but don't worry, in
his spare time he has found a lot
of minor things to get annoyed
about, and now he has a chance
to talk about them on stage (in
the form of jokes). If you have
seen him before - live or on TV and enjoyed yourself then this is
the show for you. If you didn't like
him then it probably isn't.
With introduction and post-film discussion
by producer, writer, broadcaster and
editor, Catherine Bray. Catherine writes for
magazine, Variety, appears on the Radio
4 Film Programme and Film 2016 on TV,
has recently produced documentaries,
Fear Itself and Beyond Clueless, and was
editorial production on the film, A Field
in England. Catherine will explore this
1943 epic from the powerhouse pairing
of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. General Candy (Roger
Livesey), who’s overseeing an English squad in 1943, is a veteran
leader who doesn’t have the respect of the men. Flashing back to
his career in the Boer War and World War I, we see a dashing young
officer whose life has been shaped by three different women (all played
by Deborah Kerr), and by a friendship with a German soldier.

Julian Clary – The Joy of Mincing
// 25 Oct
Julian Clary, national trinket, author, TV and
radio star is coming up your way…
The Joy of Mincing is Julian Clary’s
celebration of 30 years as a camp
comedian. There is so much to tell you: the
ups and downs of his sordid love life; the
true and heart-stopping account of how he
saved Dame Joan Collins’ life; and don’t even start him on the perils
of his DIY electrical home enema kit. On stage, Julian will proudly wear
his well-deserved M.B.E (Mincer of the British Empire). It was the last
thing he expected to receive when he knelt down in front of Prince
Charles in the scullery at Buckingham Palace…And, because Julian
gives and gives (until it hurts), he will be handing out honours to the
lucky few in the audience too. This is Julian at his filthy best. Live and
unplugged. Come and witness a masterclass in camp comedy.
