NEWS SUSSEX RESIDENTS URGED TO COME FORWARD WITH INSPIRATIONAL BIKE RIDES With recent statistics showing that more than two million people across the country are now cycling at least once a week, it is fair to say that the ‘bike bug’ has hit the UK. On the back of this, Horsham’s Station Garage is putting together the county’s very own ‘as recommended by locals’ cycle guide and is calling out to Sussex residents for their top route suggestions. Station Garage’s new cycle guide aims to bring together the best routes and cycle tracks in the county in a one-size-fits-all guide for local cyclists at all levels from beginner to professional. “We plan to feature at least 10 different routes within the guide,” said James Thorpe, dealer principal at Station Garage in Horsham. “With the addition of recommended dining and refreshment stops it should really shine a spotlight on just how accommodating Sussex is for a trip out on two wheels. We are calling out to the public for their route and rest stop suggestions; we want this to be the residents’ guide to Sussex cycling, almost like a trip advisor for cyclists, but something that both locals and tourists will pick up and enjoy.” “We really want to include as many options as possible, so whether people want to put forward their top routes for a leisurely Sunday ride with the children; the most challenging hill climbs for professionals; or even the best woodland tracks for off roading - we want to hear about all of them!” To put forward a suggestion for a cycle route or the perfect place to stop for some food and a refreshing pint, or glass of wine, please email [email protected]. All suggestions will be posted on Station Garage’s Facebook page and the public will be invited to vote for the top 10 routes with accompanying rest stops to feature in the guide. The deadline for suggestions is midnight on Sunday October 23rd. ALISON MOYET URGES PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR BRIGHTON MEMORY WALK Singer/songwriter, Alison Moyet, is urging people to join her in signing up for the Memory Walk in Brighton, to walk for a world without dementia. The event will take place on Saturday October 8th at Hove Lawns, bringing together an expected 2,000 walkers. The singer, who has experienced dementia within her family, will walk beside thousands of others who have been affected by the condition. “Alzheimer’s has blighted my family and it is a disease to which none are immune,” said Alison. “Alzheimer’s Society works hard to tackle this very real problem, providing support to those living with dementia, while researching a cure.” “Memory Walk is an opportunity for us to come together to remember our loved ones, to support one another, and to raise funds to discover a cure which will benefit us all. I am looking forward to seeing you there!” “People of all ages and abilities can take part in Memory Walk and there’s a real sense of togetherness as you walk alongside thousands of others to raise money to better support those living with dementia and fund research to find a cure,” added Jess Hillicks, community fundraiser for Sussex. “Every person, every pound, and every step will bring us closer.” Over 24,000 people in Sussex are living with dementia. Alzheimer’s Society provides a wide range of support services across the region for people affected by dementia, including dementia support workers, 'Singing for the Brain' music sessions, and dementia cafes. The charity hopes to raise £180,000 from the event, which will help to support services like these, as well as fund ongoing research to ultimately find a cure.
