the food issue There is something undeniably sensuous about good food. It should be tasted, touched and savoured. It should look beautiful and it should taste even better. It should be memorable. We are completely spoiled in this wonderful county of ours. When it comes to food we can count ourselves amongst the luckiest in the world; there’s wine, beer and spirits; there are juicy cuts of meat, luscious vegetables and plump, ripe fruits. And as for desserts… With the incredible artisans we have living and working here, our sweet teeth are spoiled for choice. It’s not just luck though. Yes, we have the perfect terroir for grapes, the ideal soil for fruit and vegetables and the best farming conditions for beef, lamb, pork, chicken and even some more exotic cuts, but we also have experts who know how to turn those fantastic conditions and produce into the best food possible. Amongst the exceptional chefs there is talent a-plenty, as well as kitchens specialising in locally produced, locally grown, locally sourced ingredients to whet our appetites for the best of the best. So when it comes to treating yourself to a slapup meal in a fine dining restaurant surrounded by the best ingredients and the most stunning 31 ambience, our county is the place to be. When it comes to sitting on the beach with some posh fish and chips as the wind whips around your hair and the smell of the salty sea makes your senses tingle, you don’t have too far to go. When it comes to picking up products that have been made with love and care – a sweet and tangy jam, a perfectly aged cheese, or a tart and crumbly pastry – in which the love that has gone into it makes the food taste even better, you’re already exactly where you need to be.
