Open Farm Sunday at Little Gate Farm // 5 Jun
Little Gate Farm in Beckley, near Rye, is one of a handful of farms in
Sussex that will be opening its gates and welcoming the public. Visitors
will be able to meet the animals, as well as wander through the woods
and learn about nature and the role that the nation’s farmers play in
producing food and looking after the countryside. Last year, a recordbreaking 207,000 people visited a farm on Open Farm Sunday and
over 350 farms opened across the UK. Little Gate Farm has 42 acres
of pasture and ancient woodland and is also a charity that supports
adults and children with learning disabilities.
Heavy Horse Show // 4-5 Jun
Arena displays will take place
throughout the weekend with
ringside commentary, including
a parade of horse-drawn
agricultural and trade vehicles.
Breeds including Shires, Suffolk
Punches, Percherons and Comtois
will participate in a variety of
activities. Weighing up to a ton and standing up to 19 hands high,
these powerful and majestic horses are prized for their good looks
and capacity for work. On Saturday, the British Heavy Horse Cross
Country Trials will take place. This multidisciplinary event will include
dressage, marathon, obstacle drive and cones competitions. On
Sunday, enjoy the grand parade of many horses and horse-drawn
vehicles, including a horse-drawn fire engine, which will end the event.

Floral Fringe Fair // 4-5 Jun
The Floral Fringe Fair is quirky
and eclectic. It has a wildlife
theme, but also a vintage twist.
The fair specialises in quality
stalls from Sussex, Surrey, Kent
and Hampshire, and stallholders
are able to talk with first-hand knowledge about their products. If
arriving in a classic or vintage pre-1975 vehicle, entry is £5.50 each
for the first two occupants. Classic and vintage vehicles will have
a specially allocated parking area. If in such a vehicle, dressing in
appropriate fashion is especially encouraged…or even if not arriving in
a classic car, dressing in style is welcome! The overall theme of the fair
is our native wildlife and how to encourage it into the garden, but the
fair has grown and developed into much more than that. It is about
everything that is quintessentially English and quirky; about celebrating
the outdoors, gardens and gardening; and about talented craftspeople
and artists of today as well as the craftspeople of a bygone era. You
can expect over 130 stalls including specialist nurseries and experts
on wildlife such as honeybees, bumblebees, birds and bats.
