EVENTS SussexEvents Ireland’s Call // 5 May Critically acclaimed show Essence of Ireland takes on a new lease of theatrical life with Ireland's Call, a new and exciting musical adaptation of the show - direct from Ireland. Inspired by true events and spanning three decades, Ireland's Call follows the extraordinary journey of the strong-headed Sean Dempsey who, at the end of WW2, leaves behind his childhood sweetheart, Cora, and his beloved homeland, Ireland, in search of a better life in the Big Apple. Can their love survive the Atlantic divide? Will Sean be able to resist ‘Ireland’s call’ as he embarks on an adventure full of danger, tragedy and lost love? Only fate will tell… Star Wars Toy Display // until 17 May This new display, which sits in the museum’s Collectors Corner and has been loaned by two of the museum staff, includes unusual items, in particular figures, from the second Star Wars trilogy. These demonstrate how merchandising developed between the two film series, as the array of characters grew and increasingly diverse options were explored. The show features an exhilarating mix of original scores and wellknown songs including Galway Girl; Isle of Hope Isle Of Tears; I Loved Her First; Tell Me Ma; and Irish Rover, together with an ensemble of some of the most talented dancers in the world. Visit the trade stands, which feature tasty local produce, cookery books, cookware and country crafts from in and around the South East. Food stands at the event will include hot and cold foods, sweets and much more. Visitors can also enjoy a pint at the bar on site. For an interesting snapshot of life in late medieval England, visit the Pelican-in-her-Piety tented encampment and experience what it would have been like to work in a Tudor kitchen with seasonal cooking demonstrations during the day… sights, smells, smoke and all.
