ARTS+ENTERTAINMENT FILMED IN SUSSEX cont. History filmmakers might be interested in Boxgrove Priory, which could be plucked straight from France rather than rural Sussex. This magical site, dating back to pre-Norman times, is full of echoes of French influence and boasts some of the best-preserved Renaissance carvings found in any English church. Hands up who knew Sussex has its very own authentic secret nuclear bunker? Located near the village of Wadhurst, and originally built at the height of the Cold War in 1958 as a hideout to protect key military personnel, the bunker has laid vacant for almost half a century. Accessed only through a small, reinforced concrete hatch and down a vertical 6-metre ladder, the tight squeeze leads underground to a shower, small kitchen, chemical toilet and beds. This forgotten abandoned location would be perfect for…an abandoned Cold War bunker film set, perhaps! I could go on and on. The point is, you never know what might be requested by a film company in their quest to create a certain feel, or to recreate a particular period from history. What if our readers think they know a great location? All insideSUSSEX readers can get involved too. If you have a location, or your own vehicle or prop and are based in Sussex we'd love to hear from you. We can promote whatever you have on offer, and, with film crews paying up to £2,500 per day, it's a lucrative way of earning some extra cash. Properties we promote are also being used for adverts and photo shoots. Next time you're out and about and you spot a potential filming location, please do get in touch with us and we'll get to work putting it to good use. Don’t forget to spread the word and let friends, colleagues and family know - there is money to be made here. If you're a business owner and are looking to supply your services on a local level to tap into Sussex’s thriving film and TV industry, please do get in touch and we can set you up as a supplier. We have a growing number of local businesses that are joining our network, and companies, freelancers and private location/vehicle/prop owners can register by logging onto www.westsussexfilmoffice.co.uk/join.
