Date Night...At Home Spending time with their other half is something that many people just don’t get to do enough of. Whether it’s due to incompatible work hours, family duties, or a bit of familiarity breeding complacency, making time for one another just seems to fall by the wayside a lot of the time. But, a regular date night is good for your soul and for your relationship – couples who deliberately make time for one another are generally happier, healthier, and more secure with each other. Of course, actually going out out can be tricky when there are children and other responsibilities to think about first. Plus, it all costs money – from the babysitter to the new outfit to the food, drinks and dancing…going out has never been more expensive. Which is why having a date night at home is the perfect solution – you’ll have all the fun for just a fraction of the cost, plus there’ll be no worry about missing the last train or taking an expensive cab! Cocktails We’ve rounded up some fun ‘date night at home’ ideas for you and your significant other to try. Games Night Cocktails are one of the finer things in life, but they don’t have to cost a fortune – especially when you make them at home. Most of us have some random booze left over from Christmas, and with the addition of mixers such as tonic water, lemonade, ginger ale, or Coca Cola, you can blend some pretty special drinks. Have a laugh, give them some silly names, and try to remember how you made the best ones! When was the last time you played a board game? Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, even Snakes & Ladders…they’re classics for good reason – and besides being really fun, they’re also a great opportunity to bond. If you don’t own any games then someone you know will; ask around and you’re bound to be able to borrow some for the night. For couples with a competitive streak, this can be a dream date night...as long as one of you isn’t a sore loser. Put some music on, make sure you’re stocked up on snacks, pour the wine and you’re ready to play. Write Your Own Love Story How did you meet? What did you do on your first date? Who proposed to whom and how? Take a notepad and pen and think back to the very beginning of your relationship. Write down all the important moments and not only will you have a record of what happened and when, but you’ll have a wonderful time reliving them all too. Keep the notebook handy and you can add more important things as they come along like anniversaries, kids and parties. There are lots of sites online that will allow you to publish a beautiful photobook for very little money, so once you’ve collected your memories together you can make it into a keepsake. Make Pizza Pizza night is always a treat, but it can get quite pricey when it’s a takeaway version. On top of that, it’s not the healthiest of options either (even if it is delicious!) For those who are watching the pounds (both weight and wallet), a homemade pizza night is a great alternative – plus, it’s a fun way to spend quality time with your partner. You can even buy pre-prepared dough if you’re not sure about your own baking skills, leaving the simple matter of picking your toppings and trying to outdo one another in the creativity stakes – buon appetito! 53
