Dover Museum & Bronze Age Boat Gallery
Situated in the town centre, Dover Museum has a range of fascinating real objects, models and
original pictures showing the history of Dover. Set over three floors, entry to the Museum is free.
The ground floor exhibition traces Dover’s history
from the Stone Age to the Saxons and includes
information regarding the building of Dover’s
Roman forts. The first floor has special exhibitions,
which change annually and the top gallery has
six scale models showing the growing town and
port of Dover since medieval times.
See the oldest known sea-going vessel, the
Bronze Age Boat thought to be some 3,500
years old. This stunning archaeological find is
now housed in an award-winning gallery at Dover
Museum just yards from where it was discovered
in 1992.
The museum holds regular themed family days
which are great fun for children of all ages.
Don’t forget to take a look at the great range of
gifts and souvenirs in the lovely gift shop. With
everything from books on local history, souvenir
mugs and t-shirts to jewellery and beautiful glass
objects you’re sure to find the perfect keepsake
to remind you of your visit.
