Matt Barrett, owner of Nicholas John Interiors
Who are Nicholas John Interiors?
We are a retailer specialising in home furnishing
and lighting based in Bexleyheath, Kent. We have
a showroom full of fantastic furniture and lighting
which was opened in 2013 and we also have a
very busy website which offers our customers
who can’t get to our showroom our wide range
of interior furnishings. The showroom gives us
an incredible amount of pleasure and allows us
to display our items and fully engage with our
customers. A positive customer experience is
incredibly important to us and we have worked
hard at ensuring the highest standards of service.
Between myself and my wife Donna we have
many years of retail and interiors experience, so
we decided to open a store of our own. We
opened the first shop in 2013 and since then
business has boomed.
We love beautiful homes and we love helping our
customers put together beautiful homes. We
want to provide products that are both
aesthetically pleasing and high quality. We believe
that shopping should be enjoyable and our desire
to offer our customers an unforgettable shopping
experience is uncompromising. As a result, we
have quickly established ourselves as a trusted
business both online and in store.
Nicholas John Interiors has featured on
Peter Andre's 60 Minute Makeover – tell us
more about that...
It was a really good experience. We have been
lucky enough to be involved with the series and
on this occasion we were invited to have more
involvement in the show. I especially enjoyed
speaking with Linda Barker and John Amerbile,

who were both incredibly personable. I can't say
that we did much more than provide a number
of products for the show, but is was very rewarding
to see the team in action and experience just
how incredibly hard everyone works. Peter Andre
was a true professional a genuinely nice guy.
How do you ensure your showroom appeals
to a variety of different clients with many
different tastes?
We try to create a space in which customers are
able to imagine themselves at home. We like to
display a rich variety of lights, furniture pieces,
art, mirrors and accessories so that there is
something for everyone. Many of our customers
seek quality and craftsmanship, so we also feature
items that are handmade in Britain.
We have a website with a wide range of home
furniture, lighting and accessories. We are able
to source items from a variety of suppliers, so
we are always adding new products and ranges
to the website. You can find it at

Our new range of high gloss furniture is the current
favourite among both customers and our team.
The range features tempered glass and soft
closing drawers, making them as long lasting as
they are stunning. We have a white LED display
cabinet at the moment that never fails to wow
anyone who comes into the store.
Where do you see Nicholas John Interiors in
five years time?
We have just expanded our shop into a second
show room area, so over the next few years we
will continue to develop the business further and
expand our product range both on the website
and in the shop. Many customers ask whether
we will open more stores and it is a possibility;
however, we are really proud of customer service
standards and unless that can be replicated at
other sites it will be difficult. We are developing
a fantastic brand which will be our main focus
for the next couple of years.
When people think of beautiful, high-quality,
modern furniture, we want them to think of
Nicholas John Interiors.

What are your best selling products?
We tend to get a range of different customers
and they are all looking for something unique and
unforgettable, so often we get requests for
statement pieces such as our LED display
cabinets or the crystal furniture range. One product
that always sells very well is the crystal and
chrome lighting. We always receive comments
regarding how beautiful the lighting in the store
is. We are constantly seeking new lights to
showcase in our store and every customer
that walks through the door is impressed with
the display.
