VISITKENT Pegwell Bay Discover Thanet’s Coast The beauty of Thanet’s coastline has always encouraged visitors, and some of those visitors – the saints, writers and artists – have gone on to make the area what it is today. And then there is the wildlife, some of it rare, and the fact that it is the perfect spot for some adventuring, and you have the most perfect of places in Kent. Discover Thanet’s Coast is a new, innovative Coastal Community Fund sponsored project which aims to encourage visitors to explore Thanet more widely, and to learn more about its heritage. The idea is that they will be inspired to discover the special links between the coast itself, the area’s cultural past and present, and the activities that go on here on a daily basis. In Thanet, things are done differently. Yes, you can exercise on the beach, but why do it the usual way? Here you can try new sports such as boxercise or yoga – actually on the sands. Or you can create art inspired by the stunning open spaces. There are bird walks on which experts give you information about the unique habitat of the chalk grasslands. In Thanet, they combine the traditional with the new and exciting to make an entirely new experience for all. Towards the end of this summer, new activity packs will be available around Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. These fun-filled activity packs offer fascinating and engaging learning materials to be used on a short trail around the towns themselves. Please remember that most of Discover Thanet’s dynamic and diverse range of activities need to be booked and paid for in advance, go to www.visitthanet.co.uk/thanetcoast or ring 01843 577023. Please note that the listings below also include Bird Walks, Seaweed and their Secrets and the Great British Beach Clean 2016, which are annual events co-ordinated through the Thanet Coast Project.
