FOOD+DRINK OYSTER & CHOP Since organic restaurant, Oyster and Chop House opened their doors three years ago at No. 8, High Street, in Herne Bay’s up and coming restaurant quarter, owners Jeff (head chef) and Elena (front of house) have been delighting customers from all over Kent with their beautiful organic dishes, sourced locally from within 18 miles. Pocketed all over the local area are suppliers, that Jeff calls his hidden gems, such as Chandler and Dunn who supply the delicious free-range meat. Located near Ash, Chandler and Dunn are a family run farm in Ash, near Canterbury with 200 hectares of grazing cattle and sheep. John Caddick, a true country man, provides game once the season commences. Local day boats from Whitstable and Fruit de Mer in Broadstairs provide the fresh fish, ensuring sustainability and seasonality of the catch. Beautiful oysters and shellfish come direct from West Whelks, recognised as one of the oldest shellfish fishing families in the UK. Brockmans Farm provides the seasonal fruit and vegetables and specialises in heritage and wild varieties of vegetables, salads, fruits and herbs, ensuring only the best organic produce is used in Oyster and Chop House’s dishes. The varied chalkboard, menu, as you would expect, is scrubbed and rewritten many times during the year, as produce goes in and out of season. It’s the variety of organic produce available that keeps head chef, Jeff, on his toes and his passion for creating new dishes alive. With one eye on the past, Jeff loves to take oldfashioned styles of cooking and put a modern twist to them, using methods and ideas that diners will love. Jeff and Elena pride themselves on providing a dining experience that enables their guests to relax in an unhurried atmosphere, taking their time to enjoy the evening. Look out for the little fresh loaves of bread and extra touches that burst with flavour as you enjoy your evening. Whether you visit for an intimate meal for two, a family celebration or just casual dining with friends, you’ll always find a time that suits, as Oyster and Chop House is open for Lunch Wednesday to Sunday (including a fantastically priced and popular Sunday lunchtime set menu) and evenings Wednesday to Saturday. 41 8 High St Herne Bay CT6 5LH 01227 749933 www.oysterandchophouse.co.uk /oysterandchophouse
