SEVENOAKS WOMAN REACHES £100,000 CHARITY MILESTONE
This November, Sevenoaks local and Pink Week
organiser, Steph Harrison, surpassed an incredible
£100,000 fundraising total for Breast Cancer
Care. Steph, who has been fundraising for the
charity for seven years, smashed the fundraising
milestone, with even more money yet to be
counted from this year’s Sevenoaks Pink Week.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer seven
years ago, Steph has been hugely involved with
the work of Breast Cancer Care – the only UKwide charity dedicated to supporting anyone
facing breast cancer.
To raise £100,000, Steph has organised bucket
collections, fundraising events, book signings
with Martina Cole and Susan Lewis and
Sevenoaks Pink Week. The fifth annual Sevenoaks
Pink Week took place this October with local
businesses turning pink for the week, a local
Sportathon and Pink Party, all raising money for
Breast Cancer Care.
Speaking of her involvement with the charity,
Steph said: “Breast Cancer Care is there to
support everyone facing breast cancer, they really
do care. If I had not come across the charity, my
treatment for breast cancer and the way I looked
at my life would have been very different. They
are a second family to me and I just can’t imagine
not being part of it.
“I couldn’t have done this alone though! A huge
thank you needs to go out to everyone who has
helped me get to this point, especially our Pink
Week committee – it really has been a team
effort.”
Samia al Qadhi, chief executive at Breast Cancer
Care, said: “Steph’s achievements are huge and
we are so grateful for her dedication and support.
As one of our most active supporters, Steph has
always been a huge asset to the charity, but to
reach a £100,000 fundraising total is phenomenal!
Steph’s hard work, and the hard work of the
people supporting her, means we can continue
to be there for anyone facing breast cancer, from
day one.”
CHEGWORTH VALLEY VOTED
‘LONDON BEST GREENGROCER’
FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING
PRESTIGIOUS INDUSTRY
AWARD WIN FOR KIMS HOSPITAL
NURSING TEAM
Chegworth Valley has been voted London Best Greengrocer in the Slow
Food London Awards 2015, retaining their title for the second year running.
The Cardiac Interventional Suite Team at KIMS Hospital Maidstone have
won the prestigious Laing Buisson Nursing Practice Award 2015, which was
announced in November at a black tie event in central London. The team
of nurses is led by Anne Hatswell, Intervention Suite manager, who manages
cardiac patient care at KIMS.
The awards, which are based entirely on public votes, aim to recognise the
very best SLOW food producers and retailers across London and are highly
regarded within the food and drink industry.
The Laing Buisson is the UK’s foremost and most highly regarded provider
of information and market intelligence on the independent health, community
care and childcare sectors. The team from KIMS beat several shortlisted
hospitals from around the UK including The Royal Marsden Hospital in
London. The judges were impressed with the way the team works with
patients from pre-assessment to discharge. The team cared for 338 patients
in the first year that KIMS was open with high levels of patient satisfaction.
Kent-based Chegworth Valley have two London shops, one at Borough
Market which specialises in the very best organic produce as well as selling
Chegworth Valley's award-winning range of juices, and the other in Notting
Hill – Chegworth Farm Shop – stocked to the brim with some of the best
SLOW food and organic products.
Deliveries are made daily to both shops from the family's home farm in the
heart of Kent, meaning that both shops are able to supply some of the
freshest produce London has to offer.
Anne Hatswell comments: “On behalf of the team I am absolutely thrilled
that our work at KIMS has been recognised by this award. We are a young
team, having been working together since the hospital opened just over 18
months ago and to beat such well established teams in hospitals up and
down the country is simply fantastic.”
David Deme, owner, commented: "We are absolutely over the moon to have
been voted as London’s Best Greengrocer for the second year running. It
is obviously a very competitive market to be in, and we appreciate our
customers taking the time to vote for us in the awards.”
