EDUCATION Bishop Challoner School I became Headteacher of Bishop Challoner School, Shortlands in September 2014. It has been everything I had hoped for: challenging, rewarding, varied and there has never been a dull moment. Every day is different and special and there is never a time to become complacent. Since September 2015, our growing sixth form have been enjoying a newly refurbished common room allowing the students to experience a relaxing environment and to be able to socialise and enjoy each other’s company. Adjacent to the common room is the Terry Robinson Suite which provides study carrels and laptops available for private study. The sixth form facilities extend to St. Catherine’s Cottage which has its own kitchen, computer suite and two teaching rooms. This allows the students some measure of independence and privilege but at the same time they remain an important part of the school. The school motto dare to do their very best is embedded in the life of the sixth form. Our sixth formers have opportunities for leadership roles including Head Pupil, Deputy Head Pupil, House Captains and Chaplaincy and Charity Prefect. The sixth form team work with the younger pupils to develop their student voice via Student Council. Students are prepared well for their future and given guidance on choosing the right university, assistance with UCAS and careers guidance. This year our students achieved 100% pass rate at A Level, with six subjects scoring 100% at A*-C, and went on to a range of universities including Lancaster University to read Philosophy Politics and Economics, and Brunel University to study Engineering. independent schools. The school is a 5-minute walk from Shortlands station and has excellent transport links, which enables our students to travel independently from a wide catchment area on public transport. The School offers sixth form scholarships and we have a limited number of bursaries available.
