HEALTH+WELLNESS
wellbeing IS THE WORD
Defined by the Cambridge dictionary as 'the state of being healthy and happy',
wellbeing is the buzzword that people are looking to right now to assess how content
they are at work and in their personal lives.
With the ever-increasing pace of life, wellbeing
cannot always be easy to achieve or maintain;
and with a large percentage of time spent at
work, there is a responsibility on behalf of the
employer and individual to identify the best ways
to maintain wellbeing for the benefit of all.
Now in its fourth year, The Wellbeing
Symposium (held at the Kent Event Centre,
Maidstone, on November 11th), brings together
leading experts in health and wellbeing to hear
the latest thinking on subjects such as nutrition,
mental health, health insurance and resilience in
the workplace.
The first part of the symposium is a ticketonly event aimed at delegates such as employers,
organisations, managers and team leaders, and
is particularly beneficial for anyone involved in
social housing, local authority, education, large
business, SME and community support. Whereas
from 1pm, the exhibition opens to the public,
during which time free health checks are available
as well as advice and help to achieve personal
wellbeing.
This years’ keynote speaker is one of Britain’s
most successful Paralympians, Baroness GreyThompson, whose accolades include 11 gold
Olympic medals, four silvers, one bronze,
and the coveted BBC title of Sports Personality
of the Year in 1992 and 2000. Tanni GreyThompson is a fantastic example of an individual
who has not let her disability prevent her from
achieving outstanding success in her career and
personal life.
But what can we as individuals do to help
ourselves? Wellbeing Symposium speaker, Dr
Robert Stewart, believes that wellbeing requires
us to take more control of our lives and health.
The symposium will discuss pioneering thinking,
but here are some instant tips to improve dayto-day wellbeing to take control now…
