Kent Police // www.kent.police.uk Kent Wildlife Trust // www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk Even if you’ve never considered a career with the police until now, Kent Police is looking for volunteers to help with the day-to-day tasks that are needed for the smooth running of the force. As long as you are over 18, enthusiastic, live within Kent, and have lived in the UK for at least three years, there should be a place for you. Roles include becoming a special constable (a volunteer police officer in uniform), supporting neighbourhood watch schemes, recording lost and found property, and administrative work. You won’t need to speak directly to victims or suspects, but you will help the police to do its job. All training will be given, and there are no minimum hours required (although there is a maximum of 10 hours per week). 167 There are over 800 volunteers working with the Kent Wildlife Trust, and each one is just as valuable as the next. Imagine the sense of achievement you will gain by helping this great cause – and the exercise too. You’ll be rewarded with more than feeling great though; each volunteer receives a copy of the Kent Wildlife Trusts’ bi-annual newsletter, a 10% discount in its shops, travel expenses, and reduced rates for its wildlife study days. What do you need to do in return? There is so much to choose from! If you prefer to work indoors, you can help in the office with admin tasks or contribute to the newsletter. If you like getting your hands dirty, there are plenty of things you can do to volunteer and help including baking cakes, carpentry, making fences, creating ponds, looking through archives or interviewing locals to find out more about the land and the wildlife… And lots, lots more.
