BROADSTAIRS
Broadstairs is the perfect place for a lazy day on
the beach, but it’s also the place to be for music
lovers this summer.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the famous
Broadstairs Folk Week, with more than 500 events
taking place from 7th to 14th August. Yo u can
dance your socks off morning, noon and night
to live music at venues throughout the town, or
join ceilidhs, workshops, parades, Cajun dances
and (new for 2015) hip hop, break dance and
English clog classes! Sing along with the Spooky
Men’s Chorale, watch a Morris side, join a ukulele
band or just sit back and enjoy the fantastic lineup that includes Kate Rusby, Tim Edey, Flook,
Edward II, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, and
many more.
The festival campsite is well equipped for families,
and there’s plenty to keep the little ones happy
throughout the festival. Day, Weekend or Week
tickets are now on sale at
www.broadstairsfolkweek.org.uk.
Or, if you’d prefer a quieter jaunt to Broadstairs,
why not take a walking tour of the town and
discover its rich history and beautiful sites? A
great way to explore the town and find hidden
gems along the promenade. Find out more at

RAMSGATE
Ramsgate is having a great year with new
businesses opening along the gorgeous Royal
Harbour, an emerging art scene and some great
attractions for 2015.
Take a stroll along the Royal Harbour and pop
into some of the bars and businesses that have
set up shop in the harbour arches – then head
out to discover one of Ramsgate’s true hidden
treasures, The Ramsgate Tunnels.
Open to the public for the first time in 75 years,
this cavernous attraction gives modern visitors a
glimpse of how people sheltered and lived in the
town below the town during the Second World
War. The underground network was transformed
into a huge shelter for up to 60,000 people in
1939 and new guided tours show what life was
like inside the underground fortress. Book tickets
at www.ramsgatetunnels.org.
Away from the seafront, bargain hunters and
vintage lovers have a new place to call home at
Petticoat Lane Emporium, the area’s biggest
indoor market of vintage, retro, boho and just
plain fabulous goodies. The giant store is divided
into little ‘streets’ with more than 170 independent
stalls set up along the way. You can while away
an afternoon browsing the cute curio, and the
emporium also has a vintage tea room and
children’s play area so it’s the perfect place for a
lazy afternoon.
