ARTS+ENTERTAINMENT Ramsgate Festival // 29th-31st August 2015 The Ramsgate Festival, formerly known as the Summer Squall, is an increasingly popular family friendly festival set against the spectacular backdrop of Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour. Now entering its sixth year, the festival, which runs from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August, is pleased to announce an entertainment and musical line up even more spectacular than before. This year's musical highlights include Alabama 3's acoustic set on Saturday 29th August. Hailed by music fans and critics alike as one of the best live bands in the world, Alabama 3 are purveyors of electronica-tinged acid country gospel, but the band is perhaps most well-known for writing The Sopranos theme song. Also headlining on the main harbour stage on Saturday is the sublime Nell Bryden, with her stunning vocal and melodic country pop. Born in Brooklyn but living in the UK, the singer has recently supported Gary Barlow on a world tour and played with Jools Holland at the Albert Hall. The festival also supports the best of local talent. Other musical highlights include Rudy Warman and the Heavy Weather, The Liberty Choir, legendary DJ Adamski, and much more. There's also plenty to entertain the kids over the weekend, including a beachside funfair, craft workshops in our marquee, street entertainment, and magical family shows from top children’s entertainers Kiki lovechild; Knuckle and Joint theatre company, Rag & Bone; the Dancing Day Kiki Love Trippers; and CJ and Max. Don't miss a visit to the Ramsgate Tunnels for spooky storytelling and a tour into the past by visiting the Operation Dynamo exhibition too! For those who enjoy classical music, on Sunday 30th The Impromptu Ensemble will perform a recital of music from the period of 1815 in commemoration of 200 years of the battle of Waterloo. If you prefer to sit in the sun, relax and have a picnic, on Sunday 30th the East Cliff band stand will have a programme of entertainment 24 Rag and Bone including regency dancing, and music from Wildwood Jack. In addition to the funfair, the harbour front will also be hosting a fabulous food market and craft village fair with entertainment from street performers and internationally acclaimed circus dance troupe, Joli Vyan, on Sunday 30th August.
