PUDDING NIGHTS AT
THE SECRET GARDEN
Just when I thought the balmy spring and summer Kentish
evenings couldn’t get any better, along came The Secret Garden
with its new Pudding Nights! BY SAMANTHA G
Never one to turn down dessert, imagine my
sheer delight to find out that Mersham-based
restaurant, The Secret Garden, has launched a
special evening dedicated to all things 'pudding'!
If like me you can find your way around a
treacle tart, polish off a pile of profiteroles, bask
in a bread and butter pudding, delve into a délice
and still have room for more, then the new monthly
Pudding Nights – running from April to November
– will be right up your sweet; I mean street!
Starting the evening with a classic cocktail,
diners are then treated to a specially created
main course – on this particular occasion, it was
a delicious pan-fried fillet of pork with a wonderful,
rich Madeira and mushroom jus, served with
buttered Jersey royals and some moorish
homemade breads.
And then the wonderment commences: the
parade of puddings! Contain your excitement as
your favourites – which may include options such
as summer pudding, spotted dick, bread and
butter pudding, profiteroles, chocolate délice,
jam roly-poly, sticky toffee pudding and trifle –

are served alongside an abundance of custards,
creams, sauces and coolies.
Once the dessert table is laden, it is then
open for you to fill your plates (and your tummy)
as many times as you wish.
Throughout the evening, there are also
games and prizes (all pudding-related, of course!)
as well as tea and coffee before departure.
At just £30pp for literally as much pudding
as you can muster, this is an evening not to be
missed! Now where is my spoon?
